Who we are
Phrasal Verbler is operated by Chris Bargery, based in Oxford, United Kingdom. If you have any questions about how your data is handled, contact [email protected].
What data we collect
We collect the following data:
- Account information — your email address and a hashed password, if you create an account.
- Practice data — your answers, mastery levels, streaks, and progress, stored against your account to power the learning system.
- Usage analytics — anonymised page views and interactions, collected via our self-hosted analytics tool (Rybbit). No third-party tracking services are used. No personal data is sent to external analytics providers.
- Payment information — if you purchase paid access, payment is processed by a third-party merchant of record. We do not store your card details. We receive a transaction ID and customer ID to activate your licence.
How we use your data
Your data is used to:
- Provide and improve the Service (progress tracking, mastery calculations, band statistics).
- Authenticate your account and activate paid access.
- Respond to support requests.
- Understand how the Service is used in aggregate (e.g. which bands are most practised).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies and local storage
Phrasal Verbler uses a session cookie to keep you logged in and may use browser local storage to cache progress data for anonymous users. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored on servers located in the European Union (Hetzner, Germany). We use HTTPS encryption for all connections and store passwords using industry-standard hashing.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction or deletion of your data.
- Delete your account at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].
Data retention
Account and practice data is retained for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the email address associated with your account.
